What You’ll Learn

You'll learn what the meta title and description do, how to write both within their character limits, and why a real photo beats a logo as your social share image. You'll also see how per-page settings and the preview mock-ups work, and what search results to realistically expect and when.

FastPage handles the technical side of search visibility for you — the behind-the-scenes files and business information Google reads are set up automatically, so your site shows up properly when people search.

What's left for you is the part only you can do: the words and picture that represent your business in a Google result or a shared link. All of it lives in the SEO tab of Site Settings, and FastPage writes a starting version for you when your site is created — these fields are for polishing it.

Your headline in Google

The Meta title is the headline people see in Google results, and the name shown on your browser tab. A live counter shows the length out of 60 characters, and turns red past 60 — that's roughly where Google cuts titles off, so keep it under.

A pattern that works well: your business name, what you do, and your suburb, separated by pipes — "Business name | what you do | suburb". It tells someone scanning results exactly who you are and where you are, in one line.

Your pitch underneath it

The Meta description is the couple of lines that appear under your title in Google results. The counter here runs out of 160 characters.

Write it like a shopfront sign: what you offer, where you are, and why someone should pick you. Someone scanning a page of results will read this in about two seconds — make those seconds count. Plain and specific beats clever every time.

The picture people see when your link is shared

The Social share image is what appears when your link is shared on Facebook, Instagram, or in messaging apps. The recommended size is 1200×630 pixels.

A good photo of your work, your product, or your place beats a logo on a white background. The photo is what makes someone stop scrolling — the logo can live on your site itself.

If your site has more than one page

When your site has more than one page, a Page selector appears at the top of the SEO tab. Each page gets its own title, description, and share image — so your main page and, say, a bookings page can each put their best foot forward.

Check it before it's out in the wild

The Preview section shows how your site looks on Google and social media — a mock-up of your Google result and your social card, using what you've entered.

Have a look before you save. If the title reads awkwardly or the image crops badly, you'll see it here first rather than finding out from a customer. Each card has its own Save button, so save as you go.

What to realistically expect

An honest word on search rankings: they move slowly. Changes here take weeks to show results, not hours — Google needs time to revisit your site and take the changes in.

What genuinely helps is a complete site: an accurate address and opening hours, real photos, and your services or products spelled out in words on the page — Google can't read a photo of a price list. If your site was built from your Google listing, keeping the two in step helps too — see keeping your site synced with Google.

The realistic first win is being findable for your business name plus your suburb. That's the search your actual customers make, and a well-filled-in site gets you there.

One more quiet advantage: your site address (fastpa.ge/your-name) is permanent, and Google likes that — every link to it keeps working forever. So once your titles and descriptions are polished, share your site everywhere and let those links build up.
