Add links and choose what shows in your navbar
One list of links powers your whole site — here's how to add menus, price lists, files and booking links, and pick the four that show in your navbar.
What You’ll Learn
You'll learn where your site's links live and how to add one — whether it points to a section, a page, a web address or an uploaded file like a PDF price list. You'll also learn how the four-link navbar limit works, why links outside the navbar still appear in your footer, and how changes go live instantly without a Publish step.
Your FastPage site has one list of links, and that single list powers everything — your navbar, your footer, and any link sections your design includes. Add a link once and it shows up wherever links appear. Edit it once and it updates everywhere.
This guide covers adding links, the four kinds of link you can create, and how to choose which ones earn a spot in your navbar.
Where your links live
Links are managed from the Home screen. Open Quick Edits and find the links list — it's headed "Menu & links" or "Links" depending on your business type.
You can have up to 12 links in total. That's enough room for a menu or price list, a booking page, a service brochure and a couple of social profiles, without your site turning into a directory.
Adding a link
Tap Add link. Every link needs two things:
- A Label — the text customers see, up to 40 characters. Short and plain works best: "Menu", "Price list", "Book now".
- A Goes to choice — where the link actually takes people.
There are four types to choose from under Goes to:
- Section — jumps to a part of your own site. You pick from a list of your sections, so "Contact" can scroll straight to your contact form.
- Page — another page on your site.
- URL — any web address. Your booking platform, an order-ahead service, your Facebook or Instagram page.
- File — upload a file, like a PDF menu or price list. Drop it into the dropzone, and when the file changes later, use Replace to swap it — the link itself stays put, so anywhere it's shared keeps working.
The switches on every link
Each link carries a few switches:
- Visible — turns a link off everywhere without deleting it. A switched-off link shows a "Hidden" tag in your list, ready to bring back later. Handy for anything seasonal.
- Show in navbar — whether this link appears in your navbar. More on this below, because there's a limit.
- Open in new tab — applies to URL and File links. Turn it on if you'd rather customers keep your site open while they look at the other page or file.
Your navbar shows four — your site shows them all
This is the part that catches people out, so it's worth being clear about.
The navbar holds a maximum of 4 links. Once four are switched on, the Show in navbar switch on your other links is disabled, with the note "Your navbar already shows 4 links — turn one off first." To promote a different link, switch one of the current four off first.
Here's the important bit: links that aren't in the navbar are not hidden. They still appear in your footer and in any link sections on your site. The navbar is a curated highlight — the three or four things you most want customers to reach — not the full list. So there's no harm in having eight links; you're just choosing which few get top billing.
Curating the navbar from the builder
There's a second place to choose your navbar links: in the builder, the Navbar card shows the same set of checkboxes ("Choose up to 4 links to show in your navbar and mobile menu"). It also has a Display choice for how your business appears in the navbar — Logo, Text, or Logo + Text.
The builder card is for selection only. To edit a link's label or destination, or to add and remove links, use Manage links — it takes you back to the Home screen list. If you're new to the builder, see editing your site in the builder.
Saving your changes
On a computer, tap Save when you're done. On a phone, tap Done. If you dismiss the editor without saving, your changes are discarded — nothing goes live by accident. Remove link inside the editor deletes the link immediately.
Link changes go live on your site straight away — there's no Publish step. And because buttons on your site (like the button in your header) can point at one of these links, updating the link updates those buttons too. Change your booking address once, and every button and link that uses it follows.
