Change your site's look: templates, colours and fonts
Restyle your whole site from the builder's Style tab — switch templates risk-free, pick colours that match your brand, and choose fonts by eye.
What You’ll Learn
You'll learn what a template controls and how to switch templates safely — previews use your own content, and nothing changes publicly until you publish. We'll also explain why colour options differ between templates, how the font picker works, and which style changes go live instantly.
Your site's look — the template, the colours, the fonts — is separate from your content. You can restyle the whole thing without retyping a word or re-uploading a photo.
All of it lives in the builder. Open the builder, then switch from the Content tab to the Style tab.
Templates: the big picture
Your template controls the overall design of your site — the layout, the personality, how each section is styled. Think of it as the difference between two shopfronts selling the same goods: same business, very different feel.
If your type of business has more than one template available, the Style tab shows your current template's name and a Switch template button. Clicking it opens a picker with live mini-previews — and the previews show your own content in each template, not a stranger's demo site, so you can judge properly.
Nothing is lost when you switch. All your words and photos carry over to the new design.
Try templates without risk
A template switch is preview-only until you publish. When you switch, you'll see a "Publish to apply" note — your public site keeps its current look, and only you can see the new one in the builder.
That means you can flick through every template on a quiet afternoon, compare them side by side against your real content, and either publish the one you like or walk away with your live site untouched. See Publish your site for how publishing works.
Colours: why your options depend on your template
The colour controls you see are set by your template, so don't worry if your options look different from a friend's site. There are three styles:
- Most templates give you a Theme choice — Light, Dark, Paper or Charcoal — plus an Action colour, which is the colour of your buttons. There are 10 swatches to pick from, or a custom colour picker if none match your brand.
- Some templates use a single Colour theme instead — a list of preset palettes where one pick re-tints the whole site in one go.
- A few dark, design-led templates only offer a Button colour, because their palette is part of the design itself. That's deliberate, not a missing feature.
Fonts
The Style tab includes a font picker with a "Search fonts" box, organised by category, with every font shown in its own typeface — so you're choosing by eye, not by name.
Most templates have one Font choice that sets the type across your site. Some also offer a Heading font or Display font, which lets your titles use a different, more characterful face while the body text stays easy to read.
When changes go live
Style changes — theme, colours and fonts — apply to your live site straight away. You don't need to publish them.
The one exception is switching templates, which waits for Publish as described above. So a quick button-colour tweak is instant, but a whole-design change never sneaks out before you're ready.
A few practical tips
- Pick colours that match your signage or logo. Customers who've seen your shopfront should feel like they've landed in the right place.
- Choose dark or light by mood: dark themes suit evening-focused or premium businesses; light themes feel open and everyday.
- Settle on a font and leave it alone. Changing fonts every week makes a site feel unfinished — consistency reads as professionalism.
Once the look is sorted, the words and photos do the rest — see Editing your site in the builder for how to get those right.
